Canadian kids ranked amongst least active in the whole world

Canadian kids ranked amongst least active in the whole world, according to a study published this month:

9% of Canadian kids aged five to 17 are involved in minimum of 60 minutes of ‘heart-pumping activity’ per day. 24% of that group meets the Canadian Sedentary Behavior Guideline of no more than two hours of recreational screen time per day.

YMCA can help. Why now?

Kids on average, spend 44 hours in front of a screen each week and almost 2 million Albertans are overweight or obese.

At the YMCA, we have programs and activities for children and youth and we serve over 1,000 children and youth each week.  The three new city built facilities we are operating will help us enhance our programs and expand our offerings that are already in 60 locations across all four quadrants of the city.

The YMCA Power of Potential Campaign is about helping people of all ages achieve their potential.  With your support, more children, youth and adults will have a place to belong, grow, thrive and lead. With your help, we can build the health of the community and lead all Calgarians to the path of reaching their potential.
